Accessibility
The target is WCAG 2.1 AA. Here is what that means in practice, and what we know is not there yet.
What is in place
- A skip link, semantic landmarks and one h1 per page.
- Full keyboard operation, including the crossword: arrow keys move, space swaps direction, tab moves between clues.
- Visible focus on every interactive element, and 44px touch targets.
- Motion respects
prefers-reduced-motion; nothing on the site depends on hover to be understood. - Alternative text written from the editorial record. Decorative images are hidden from assistive technology rather than described.
What is outstanding
- A full audit with screen-reader users on Android, which is the majority platform for our readers.
- Urdu-language interface strings, which are not built yet.
