Purana Ghar

A Lahore sitting room, 1987. The arrangement of the room is the evidence.

This one is not open yet, and we would rather say so.

The research is done and published below. What is outstanding is the evidence and rights package: until every item can be shown with its own permission and citation, there is nothing here to enter. The record stands on its own in the meantime.

Be told when it opens — one line, no digest.

The premise

How were television, communications and consumer technology reshaping domestic social space in a Lahore sitting room in the late 1980s? New machines did not simply enter a household — they redirected where people sat, where conversations could be had, and what a family put on show.

Method and sources

The reconstruction

Evidence-based composite. Built from documented Lahore interiors, objects and period sources. It would not recreate one specific household, and the room stands for a documented type rather than for how anyone else in Pakistan lived.

Why the room and not the objects

The spatial argument is the point: where a television redirects seating, where a fixed telephone constrains conversation, and what a household chooses to display.

What has to close before this opens

The Lahore 1987 co-occurrence source pack is recorded as production research required before art. No object in the scene has reached confirmed status, so no brand, model, price, purchase date, statistic or quotation appears anywhere in this record.
